Your fleet
Your PCs
If you use Evonex on more than one PC, each instance belongs to one of them.
- Where
- Instances ▸ the PC button ▸ Rename this PC… or Your PCs…
- Use it to
- Switch between your PCs' instances, name this PC, and move instances from one PC to another.
- You need
- Evonex on two or more of your PCs. With one PC you never see any of this. Renaming, moving and forgetting a PC need the internet.
An instance belongs to the PC it runs on. Each PC shows, starts and counts its own instances by default, and can look at the others. The Dashboard shows only this PC's instances.
What belongs to a PC
- An instance belongs to the PC where it was made or first started. Only that PC can start it.
- Its emulator link, its port and its city-map link are facts about that PC's emulators, so they stay with the PC. If you move the instance, Evonex puts them aside. They come back if you move it back.
- New instances and Coordex boards belong to the PC they are added on.
- Evonex never moves an instance from one PC to another by itself. Only you do.
Look at another PC's instances
When Evonex knows of more than one PC of yours, a button appears at the top of Instances. It reads This PC, the PC's name and a count. Click it to choose whose instances the page shows.
- 1This PC Shows the instances that live on this PC. The line under the name says it is online and which Evonex version it runs.
- 2Another PC Shows that PC's instances. The line says when you last saw it online.
- 3All PCs Shows every instance on every PC.
- 4Rename this PC… Gives this PC a name your other PCs will show.
- 5Your PCs… Opens the list of all your PCs, where you can move instances between them.
- This PC is the choice Evonex starts with.
- Not on a PC yet appears only while some instances have no PC. They were made before Evonex knew which PC runs what.
- Your pick is remembered. If it cannot be used, Evonex falls back to This PC.
You can look at another PC's instances, but you cannot run or set them up here. On a card, the status reads Running on Office PC (blue) or On Office PC (grey). A line under it says, for example, Office PC is online now or Office PC was last seen 3 days ago. In the Manager the row is read-only and has a PC column.
To make an instance this PC's, press Move to this PC on its card, on the selection bar, or in its row menu. If it is running on the other PC, the button is greyed out and says Stop it on Office PC first. Stop it there, then move it.
Name this PC
- Open Instances and click the PC button.
- Press Rename this PC….
- Type a name of up to 40 characters.
- Press Save, or Enter.
Until you name it, a PC goes by its Windows computer name. Leave the box empty to go back to that name.
The Your PCs window
Press Your PCs… to see every PC Evonex knows of, this one first.
- 1Instances Counts the instances that belong to each PC.
- 2Seen Says whether the PC is online now or when you last saw it, and which Evonex version it runs.
- 3Rename Gives the PC a name. An empty name goes back to its computer name.
- 4Move its 1 here Makes the other PC's instances this PC's. It refuses the ones running on that PC, so stop them there first.
Two questions Evonex may ask
Sometimes a strip appears under the page title on Instances and asks about your PCs. There are two kinds.
- N instances aren't on a PC yet. These were made before Evonex knew which PC runs what. Press Show them, pick the ones this PC runs and move them here. Evonex also files an instance by itself once it can tell where it belongs: you started it here, linked it here, or typed its port here.
- Was this PC “Office PC”? This appears after you reinstall Windows: the computer name is the same, and the old PC has been silent since this one appeared. Yes — take its 9 instances gives this PC the old PC's instances and name, and forgets the old PC. It's another PC says no, and Evonex never asks about that PC again on this PC.
