Settings for one game account are on Instance settings.

These settings belong to Evonex on this PC. They change how the app looks and runs, not what your instances do. Every look lays the page out in its own way, but the controls are the same.

Setting up for the first time? Check Text recognition first. Until it says English ready, Evonex cannot read names, numbers or timers in the game.

  2. 2Dark or light Switches between the dark and the light look. The sun and moon control on the title bar does the same.

Pick a look

Evonex has three looks. They differ in style and layout, not in what they do. The choice is remembered.

Theme
Aurora, Standing Watch or Prism. The app changes at once. The pages and their order stay the same. Default: Aurora.
Appearance
Dark or Light. The caption reads Appearance in some looks and Mode in others. In the Prism look the two are named OBSIDIAN (dark) and CRYSTAL (light). Default: Light.
Reduce motion
Turns animations off, so every change jumps straight to its end. Default: Off.

Make Evonex bigger or smaller

If text looks too small or too blurry on your screen, change the size here. Evonex starts at the size it suggests for your screen.

  1. Find Display on the Settings page.
  2. Drag the slider, or press the − and + buttons (Smaller and Bigger). Each press moves the size by 5%.
  3. Press Restart to apply. Evonex asks first, then closes and opens again at the new size.
This screen
Shows the size of your screen in dots, for example 1920×1080. Evonex remembers one size for each screen, so a laptop screen and a monitor keep their own.
Slider
Goes from 75% up to the largest size that fits your screen, in steps of 5%.
Restart to apply
Greyed out until the size you picked differs from the size in use. Evonex draws itself at a fixed size while it runs, so a new size needs a restart.
Recommended
Goes back to the size Evonex suggests for this screen.
100% · active
The small badge beside the title shows the size in use. active means it is in use. pending means you saved a new size and Evonex keeps drawing at the current size until it reopens. fixed means something outside Evonex sets the size, so the slider is switched off. Unavailable means Evonex could not read your screen.
Restart to apply stops every running instance. The window that asks tells you how many. Press Not now if you would rather wait.

Text recognition

Evonex looks at the game's screen and reads names, numbers and timers. It uses the text reader that is built into Windows. That reader needs a language. English works best, because the game is in English. The reading happens on your PC and nothing is sent anywhere.

English ready
Windows can read English. This is what you want.
Fallback language
English is not installed, so Evonex reads with another language. It works, but English is more accurate for the game's text.
Not available
No language is installed. Evonex cannot read names, numbers or timers until you add one.
Check failed
Evonex could not run the check. Press Re-check.
Re-check
Looks again for installed languages. Press it after you add one.
Language settings
Opens the Windows language page.

If it does not say English ready, add English to Windows:

  1. Press Language settings. Windows opens Time & language ▸ Language & region.
  2. Add a language. English is best.
  3. Open that language's ⋯ menu and choose Language options.
  4. Install the optional feature called Optical character recognition.
  5. Go back to Evonex and press Re-check. The badge should read English ready.
Adding the language is not enough. The optional feature Optical character recognition must be installed too. Without it Evonex cannot read the game's text.

Save your logs

Logs are Evonex's diary of what it did and what went wrong. Save them to a file when you want to look back or ask for help.

  1. Under Logs, pick a Range. For exact times pick Custom and fill in From and To.
  2. Pick a Scope: all instances in one combined log, or a single instance.
  3. Press Export…, choose where to save the file and confirm. A line under the buttons says where the file went.
Range
1h, 24h, 7d, 30d or Custom. A quick range ends at the moment you press Export…. Default: 24h.
From and To
Appear with Custom. Each holds a date and a time.
Scope
All instances (combined log) or one instance by name. Default: All instances (combined log).
Export…
Saves the log of the range you picked. The file name starts with evonex and carries the date and time.
Open folder
Opens the folder on this PC where Evonex keeps its log files.
Reload button
Refreshes the list of instances in Scope.
If nothing was logged in the range you picked, Evonex says so and the file is empty. Pick a longer range.

About and updates

About shows the version of Evonex you run. Quote it when you ask for help.

What's new
Shows what changed in the version you are running. It comes with Evonex, so it works offline.
Check for updates
Asks the Evonex site whether a newer version exists. It downloads nothing. A window answers: You're up to date, Update available (with the address of the download page), Nothing published yet, or that it could not reach the update server.

Evonex also looks for a new version by itself, a few seconds after it starts and then every twelve hours. When one is ready, a banner appears under the title bar. Its ✕ hides the banner until the next version comes out. A second banner can appear when you move Evonex to a screen of a different size.

The two banners under the title bar. They stay out of the way: they never interrupt a running instance.
  1. 1What's new Opens the list of changes for the new version on the Evonex site.
  2. 2Update Opens the Update Evonex window, where you can install the new version.
  3. 3Adjust Opens Settings so you can pick the size yourself.
  4. 4Restart now Restarts Evonex at the size the banner suggests. It asks first.

The size banner reads, for example, This screen (2560×1440) suggests 125% — Evonex is drawing at 100%. It appears when you move Evonex to another screen or change your screen's resolution. Its ✕ keeps the current size.

Install an update

  1. Press Update on the banner. The Update Evonex window opens.
  2. Check the line about your instances. If any are running or paused, they are stopped where they are. A task in progress is cut, not finished.
  3. Press Update now. Evonex downloads the new version, checks it, closes and opens again by itself. Do not start it yourself.
  4. After it reopens, every instance is stopped. Press Start on the ones you want running.
The Update Evonex window.
  1. 1Version Shows the version you run, the new version and the size of the download.
  2. 2What's new in … Opens the list of changes on the Evonex site.
  3. 3Your instances Says what the update does to running instances. With none running it says nothing is interrupted.
  4. 4Later Closes the window. The banner stays, so you can update when it suits you.
  5. 5Update now Downloads and installs the new version, then reopens Evonex.
Update at a quiet moment. An update cuts any task that is in progress.

Problems?

Evonex looks too small or blurry.
Press Recommended under Display, or pick a size yourself, then press Restart to apply.
Restart to apply is greyed out.
The size you picked is already the size in use. Move the slider first.
Text recognition says Not available.
No Windows language is installed. Follow the steps under Text recognition above, and press Re-check. Until it says English ready, Evonex cannot read names, numbers or timers, so tasks that need them will not work.
It says Fallback language.
Evonex found a language, but not English. It works, but add English for the best results.
I added English but it still says Not available.
Adding the language is not enough. Install the optional Windows feature Optical character recognition for that language, then press Re-check.
Check for updates says it could not reach the update server.
Evonex could not get online. Check your internet connection and try again later.
The exported log file is empty.
Nothing was logged in the range you picked. Choose a longer range and export again.
Is the text reading done online?
No. It runs on your PC, with the text reader built into Windows. Nothing is sent anywhere for it.
I changed the look and the page list moved.
Each look puts the page list in its own place. The pages are the same. Find your way around shows where.
